Don Ostertag’s Summer Music Monday “Summer Wind” by Frank Sinatra

My friend Don at http://donostertag.wordpress.com/ shared his favorite summer song last week, with this elegant selection by “Old blue eyes,” Frank Sinatra.  I would encourage you to visit Don’s blog to be enchanted by his personal stories of 45 years of being a stage hand at a major theater. He is blessed with such clear and vivid observation stories!

Do listen to Frank sing “Summer Winds” and discover why he is the “chairman of the board!”

Do you have  songs that bring up memories from the past?  First kiss?  Wedding song?   Summertime?  We would love to hear them.

This was filmed at Sinatra’s 75th birthday concert, though the first recording was in 1966.

You are quite right, Don’s blog is fantastic! And he’s a Bronze Star veteran to boot!

Thank you, Anne for your kind words and for video of Sinatra singing SUMMER WIND in 1990. He looks so alive, so Sinatra. Over the years I worked him many, many times and actually paid money to sit in audiences to see him. Just two years after this video was recorded, I worked Frank for the last time. It was a concert during the Super Bowl festivities in Minneapolis. While he needed the teleprompters to help with lyrics, and while his voice took on the rasp of age, he was still Sinatra. Still took time to pronounce every word and convey the meaning behind the song.

And speaking of Sinatra, my favorite song to listen to on the 4th of July is Sinatra’s, or anybody’s, THE HOUSE I LIVE IN. I think it represents everything that is good in America, the reasons and results of the sacrifices of Americans through out the years. It came out of a documentary concerning prejudice.
But to set the record straight, gp mentioned I had a Bronze Star. I hope somewhere in my writings that I didn”t conveyed this because it would not be true. I was a US Army paratrooper but it was between Korea and Nam. I never saw combat.

This may sound trite, but there will never be another Sinatra. What a wonderful talent he was. I used to own about 20 of his albums, but sadly lost them along with a lot of my old photos et cetera. (After four failed marriages I suppose I am lucky to have anything at all! Hahaha)
I do retain my memories, and those are all I need.
A favorite ‘Summer Song’ of mine? “In the Summertime” by Mungo Jerry. Corny, silly song, but when I hear it I am always transported back to the very early Seventies when life held the door open to so many possibilities.
