About

Through my eyes and words, I want each of you to experience this exotic, ancient country, India, which is standing on the brink of becoming a world power. And having a blog gives me a reason to write for my family, former students, grand-babies, and friends. Writing is to be read, so having readers, comments, and questions to answer will encourage me along the way.

Update

Our four month adventure in India is over, but there are still tales to tell from that far off magical place which seems now only a dream. I want to share the perfect quote from a new blogger friend who understands the trouble I am having articulating my Indian obsession!

“India leaves her mark on her guests in a most haunting compelling and often surprising way. I suspect that even now you are trying to figure out how to get back there!” (A comment response to me from Ninagrandiose’s Blog)

Bingo, Nina!

I have been fortunate to travel pretty extensively through  Western and Eastern Europe to Egypt, Ghana, Tunisia, Belize, and Guatemala. So stories from any of these places could pop up anytime. And of course tales from the United States !   You are most welcome to come along for the ride!

  17. Dear Anne,
I respect your passion towards India.. But coming from where my father died trying to explain his condition to doctors for 2 hours .. My husbands uncle, who was having a heart attack.. was left to die on the road begging for water by a “friend” who ran away to avoid any trouble .. My gold chain was stolen while I napped on a bus during a long journey and instead of being helped I was mistreated and teased by cops .. Looking at the condition of states like Bihar where people dont upgrade the condition of their houses for fear of being bullied to pay money.. In a land where the most crime happens in the capital city of the country, where girls can’t travel .. Where I have been teased and whistled and made cheap comments at .. I guess I am pretty justified .. It’s a beautiful land , there are mostly great people .. But I won’t accecpt that the politics is in order … If there is no law that’s implemented, if guilty has no fear of justice .. No land is safe for anyone ..

In Delhi there had been cases of olden citizens being killed and robbed in the supposedly security of their homes. There were cases of Persident’s bodyguards raping women in Delhi .. Forget Modi .. I won’t call any politician correct .. Thank you for your interest in the history of the country and I have nothing against it , but I will call a spade a spade …
Hope you enjoy your visit 🙂

Oh my, and now the most terrible story yet. I can see why you are so hesitant and fearful of politicians. No one should be treated in such a terrible way. Right now in the US there is a huge scandal that the many of the Veterans Hospitals that involves lying, keeping two sets of books and awful care. The precious veterans are returning home alive from war and fighting for us and then dying waiting for a doctor to see and diagnose them! The heart of evil men and women can be as black as coal with evil. And we have to continually do diligence and be on the outlook especially for the “least among us” whom we have a responsibility to help. I hope that Mr. Modi will do that! Not that I am naive enough to think he doesn’t have a huge ego , he most assuredly does, but also he wants to have a good reputation and I think he will want the world to admire him and his leadership. AAP had a selfish candidate that proved he couldn’t lead and didn’t really care about helping his people and Congress and their arrogance and regal manner as the royal family. There was no choice in my mind and it seems from the Indian people agree . Is mr. Modi perfect, of course not, but I think people trusted that he understood the life of a tea-wallah and knew in his heart what their life is like.

My dear friend, I am so sorry for the horrible things that have happened in your life and I hope and pray things will be better and soon for your family in India. Peace!

      • Thank you for understanding …. I love India .. It’s the bureaucracy and twisted hunger for power I can’t stand … I hope you enjoy your stay .. It’s a wonderful country and the warmth you get from the people in General is wonderful … Choice between any political leader is picking between deaf (to peoples need), dumb(to speak against wrong) or blind ( to the wrong). . Great analogy on elections! Actually we were in India from January until the first week in May in 2013 and were in Ahmadabad with architecture students studying at CEPT. Husband is professor of architecture. Then we traveled to the north for 2 weeks and 10 days to the south. We hope to go again. We really loved the country and especially the the wonderful welcoming people! Thank you for sharing your story and helping me understand more about India!

Hey thanks Marco for letting me know. I was up your way this weekend for Lax at the Onondaga Nation arena. Parker was able to suit up. He has 26 kids on this team and they only suit up 20 per game. The boys there start playing at 4 years of age! Parker is small and 8 playing with 8-10 year olds, but he is catching on and figuring it all out. He is loving it.
Saturday there were matches from 10 in the morning until 10 at night. Too bad about Albany getting beaten by Notre Dame.

No Notre Dame fans here either . First game , Parker was the awed by the checking but this time he ran, seemed in the game and likes it. That is important . He is smart and quick , he
Will get it . Don’t know if you have been to the nation arena or not . Nice building with huge Onondaga word on the front including all the diacritical marks. Literal translation is “where they play!” I thought that was neat !

I will surely keep that in mind as I am sure we will be back there for a game at some point. In the fall of 2015, the semi finals of World Lacrosse with be there. there are people from all over the world who are anxious to see and play where the game was born ! There will be much building and preparations for that event. .

Did you live in the city or the state? We are upstate near Albany, the capital. I have been to Belize on a trip to help with a missionary school. It is wonderful. I love that it was left in its naturalness unlike the destruction in Mexico. I have been so blessed to visit lots of places and as you probably know, India is at the top of my list. i have discovered that there are people who really want to go and love it or others who ask, “Why would you want to go there?” Not many in-betweeners! Travel gets in your blood, doesn’t it?

Both. You can read the Bio on my blog, theoryofirony, but the short of it is that I grew up in a town just outside New York City and then moved to Albany, where I lived for many years (maybe even more in common). I like to go to places off the beaten track, like Belize: we visited Belize City; Altun Ha, tubed the River of Caves, spent a day on Goff’s Caye, went to the Bird Sanctuary, etc. As you say, in your blood.
