This morning was a new beginning for the House of Representatives in Washington , DC. There were smiles and waves and a hopeful atmosphere. The House is made up of 435 representatives of the people and it has been fractious house for effective governing for quiet some time. The people’s house is lead by the third in line for the presidency after the Vice president and the President. Every two years these representatives must be relected by their constituents back home.
Boehner and Ryan both have true American Dream stories. Boehner was born into a blue-collar Catholic family of 12 children in Ohio. He met his wife while he was a night janitor, one of his jobs working his way through college. He graduated in 7 years, He will be remembered for inviting and orchestrating Pope Francis’ historic visit and address to the United States Congress.
Ryan is most well known as the young Wisconsin politician who ran for Vice President with Mitt Romney in 2012 and was defeated by President Obama. Paul was born into a Catholic family but his father was an attorney. He is 45 years old now and has been in elected office since his twenties.
The House of Representatives is called the House of the People. The House should listen to, work, and speak for the people. This morning , it seemed that the House was called to renew the American ideal and called to a higher level of service. “May it be!”
