Our Last Sunday in Amdavad !

This was from a visit to a step well in Rajasthan which has nothing to do with this post except I like it and it is in India!

I am an emotional  wreck.  Last night we had our last supper in India with the whole group.  One student said he was going to say goodbye to Corb’s Mill Owner’s Building where they spend much time.  The man in charge of the building  thinks of our group using the famous Corb building as a collaboration with Ahmedabad.

This morning we went to “That Place” one of our favorite restaurants this trip . David got a proper English breakfast and I ordered Crepes with Nutella and Whipped Cream.  We will probably eat there at least once more.  I will tell them then that we are leaving from home. They already greet us each visit with their hands over their hears.  I know that they will be genuinely sorry to see us leave.  How do I know this?  It is the Indian way!

As hard as the goodbyes are, I think that closure is important. I don’t want to just disappear so I say goodbye usually with some tears, because each of these people  have touched my heart.

As we were wakling to catch a rickshaw, a man pulled up in his car.  a neighbor.  He asked where we were going and then said he would take us as it was his duty! A gentle gift on this  hot day.  He is 77 years old and spry  as can be.  He had Indian Hip Hop on the radio before we got in!

MONDAY MORNING:

I have lots more to say but want to post this before the computer overheats.  If I can, I will post again before the early morning Thursday flight to New York. If not, you will hear from me back in the USA!

This Is Incredible India !

  1. So touching. I feel the same way every time we leave a place where we’ve made friends and felt a kinship with the people.

I think of the expression, “Parting is such sweet sorrow.” I felt your trip to India was another wonderful adventure and appreciate how you share it with us, too.
