My school in Mesa was about two miles from Sunshine Acres. I taught children from there in my third grade class. Some were the children who were escaping dysfunctional families and some were the children of the staff. I loved going there for dinner and for church on Sunday. The air is full of laughter and love.
The Acres as it is called in Messa, runs completely on donations, taking not a penny from either Arizona or the Federal Government. Chefs come from Scottsdale Resorts and cook fabulous meals and the sports teams of Phoenix visit and donate money as well as their time. So do many other people. The children have the option to remain at the acres until they finish college if they want. It is the only stable home many of the children have ever had. Often the parents are in jail, or on drugs. The white haired woman is the daughter of the man who first opened the doors in the 1950s. Please watch the video , I know it will touch your heart!
