These are powerful words because of the source. General/ President Dwight D. Eisenhower and Republican!

I have to admit that I am  pleasantly  surprised by this picture and President Eisenhower’s words.  Are you ?

  1. Don Ostertag says:

In his farewell speech, he warned us against the Military-Industrial Complex. Actually, his politics were far Left of the last two Democrat presidents. Certainly one of his greatest accomplishments was the creation of the national highway system that we take for granted today. It changed out way of life for the better in a way few things have ever done before. He got the Korean Conflict ended, but he was also the first president to send American military into Vietnam. All in all, he is a great president in my opinion..

Oh Don, I remember “,military industrial complex” but didn’t remember who said it. Yes, the highway system. . . . brilliant. I agree that the country would be blessed to have another president with his heart, experience , and vision! thank you so much. I always love your dearth of knowledge and experience!

He knew he could never get the backing from Congress and the public to build the highway system so he played on the Cold War. He said they needed the highways in order to move missiles by truck to the parts of the country where they might have to be used. Several years later Congress and the public learned that the overpass bridges were too low to permit the missiles on trucks to pass below.

  2. I’m not surprised by this. It seems to me the biggest war hawks are usually those who haven’t fought in a war. Real soldiers only fight because they believe it is a necessary duty to protect their family and home land.
