October 22nd, is celebrated in Gujarat and by Hindi women in the north of India and Pakistan . Married women are fast and pray all day for the safety, good health, and longevity of life of their husbands.
These beautiful pictures of young love and families were contrasted in the Daily Mail’s story and pictures. Sadly, widows are shunned and cast out in society after their husband’s die. There is a new charity that is working to give these faithful older women a pension and their rightful place in Indian society. In a country that has moved away from the wife being burned on her husband’s burial fire, they have come a long way, but many habits and customs are hard to break. Hopefully, by the time the young women are widows, conditions and respect for them will be the action of the day.

I was there for four months at the first of the year and fell in love with incredible India! I have found that there are people who love it and those who are the other extreme….hardly any in the middle as luke warm! LOL!

Indians are amazing in that way. My husband says what really impresses him is the peaceful, gentle life most of them lead in the midst of such challenges. Then they take so much joy in Bollywood dancing, flying kites, celebrating their faith and festivals. They are opulent in spirit!

Beautifully written! And yes India is amazing.Im yet to see so much of it. Really want to capture it’s spiritual essence. So far it has been to meet family! Hopefully my next trip will allow me to explore in the way I wish to! 🙂
