This is almost is an unbelievable topic, but trust me, it is real! But these pictures are not Amanabad in Gujarat where this situation is much better. In our four months there , we had a flickering and off of electricity only once and for just a short time. We were shocked as we traveled and had no electricity in the * * * hotels were we stayed.
No wonder the lights flicker and go out for minutes and hours at a time!
India seems” powerless” to stop electrical theft.
The wire business does provide many a man with an electrifying job.. . . .
and many a monkey a swinging good time!

In Udaipur the locals were used to having just a couple of hours electricity per day. Can you imagine how London, New York or any other huge city would cope?

Oh my goodness! The very idea of electricity cut in New York. There is no where in the world , at least where I have traveled, where people are as patient as the Indians. Do those huge super expensive hotels in Udaipur have their own generators? Certainly people wouldn’t pay those exorbitant prices and have no electricity. We ate in a roof-top restaurant in old town. Great view, and we saw the Octopussy video. The citizens seemed very happy that it was shot in Udaipur. We all decided, as experts on 007, that was the worst one ever filmed. But we all decided too, that in spite of the slow service of our meal….3 hours to be exact, that Udaipur. . .. .is to die for. Thanks for taking time to comment!

I think we ate in the same place and watched Octopussy too (you might like my latest post where I did accidentally hold that deadly blue ringed octopus)! There was a couple dancing on a nearby rooftop & throwing their shadows across the ground as the sun set. Udaipur was lovely and had really accommodating families!

What photos. To me the wires look so dangerous. However a monkey is having a good time. My family friends told me that one such monkey got an electrical shock while swinging and boy he was so afraid of climbing the electrical poles, trees that he would not even attempt to climb a bed. This happened on their vacation in India. Lovely pictures. Thanks for sharing with us.

India is a land of paradoxes – with so many things going wrong, it manages an 8% yoy economic growth for close to a decade, and though it has slowed in the last couple of years, I just wonder, if they get their act together – what an incredible India it would truly be.

That is a great point. I do hope and pray they are on the way! Do you live in India or away? Whey I ask is that we know lots of Indian professors and doctors in the states who are very impatient with Indian lack of progress and you seem encouraging……

I live in Bangalore, probably the HQ when it comes to traffic chaos, but I can tell you, the growth that is happening is not what you see or read in the papers, its happening at the grass roots level – and you reap what you sow.

We didn’t go to Bangalore because these were architecture students and not business, though I am sure there are wonderful temples and palaces there ,too. I know there is a huge swell of entrepreneurship in India…in the blood too, right? I wrote two posts on that….California dreaming and Dreamers and Doers…check them out and let me know what you think.
