The Great Dictator, David Hayman on Scottish Independence

The beauty of these words made me weep and not only for the hope of the Scottish people but for America.  The country she used to be and with the determination and will of the people  and God’s mercy and grace, she may rise again to this ideal.   Take the few minutes to watch, listen, and think about this incredible video.   Scotland Vote YES tomorrow to begin your  journey of independence and idealism.   America work for a return to our past as the world looked to us as their  hope and example, as we exemplified these ideals.

In six months, Shaun has changed the world.  His internet presence changed from a discussion of living with pain and Fibromyalgia  to news.  Not just any news, but often alternative news that was unexpected and generally unknown.  He diligently searched for the truth above all else with exhaustive research of various sites. Followers rewarded him with over 500,000 hits in those short six months.
As the Scottish Referendum for Independence drew closer to election day,  September 18, his love for his country and her people became more and more the focus of his blog. His voice became more and more the Scottish voice.  Shaun understood the Scottish experience with empathy gained from his own searing, constant pain.  He is a “bleeding heart” liberal concerned with people and their needs. . . . the poor, the elderly, the disabled who need housing, pensions, food , and medical care not Westminster’s  austerity programs where the money is sifted to the war machine.  Scots want the Trident Missiles moved out of their land so that they are no longer part of that culture. We learned all this from his posts as he connected with all who wrote him.
Shaun, you were continually saying that “Everyone has a story. . . ” Thank you for sharing yours with the world and inspiring us.  Your love for Dawn and your children, your love for  the Celtic Football Club,  and your love for Scotland are ever present in your writing.   Thank you for teaching , cajoling, understanding others’ struggles, and your deep  love of Scotland.
I, for one, hope and expect that  we will be able to read more from Shaun as Scotland works out the myriad of details in the next two years  forming their new country. . . . . .
My husband and I were in Scotland for 5 days in 1996.  I remember a man in Callender who spoke so longingly about Scottish Independence. That was my beginning experience with Scotland’s dream of independence.   It has taken over 300 years for this dream to become a reality.  Scotland follow that dream and make it a reality. . . . . Vote YES on September 18th.
Thank you Shaun Gibson for your heart of  freedom!

Music Monday ” Flower of Scotland ” Lone Bagpiper

Today, one of the most recognizable symbols of Scotland is the bagpipes. It’s history may go back to  Roman times. In the Battle of Culloden in 1746, it  was named an instrument of war when the British general said,

“A Highlander never marched without a piper-so it is an instrument of war.”

Thus began the pacification of the unruly dreaded Highland army.  The British systematically dismantled Scottish society by confiscating rights, collecting weapons, and  banning the kilt and tartan.  There is a story of the bagpipes, themselves, being banned, though I was unable to verify that detail.                       -from the National Trust of Scotland

Two hundred sixty eight years later on September 18, 2014, Scotland has an opportunity  to regain her  independence from Britain. Will there be a war or a battle?  Yes of sorts, but the Scots  will fight at the ballot box using it as the new “tool of war.”  The courage and sense of history and personal strength, will carry them to an independent country of self-determination . They will not listen to fear, but carry the hope of Scots from all ages in their hearts when they  Vote YES for Independence!

Enjoy the eerie, haunting, sorrowful sound of the lone bagpiper as you watch  the natural beauty of this proud country!

Lunch Flash Dance in Mumbai

Indian people are born with dancing in their souls, or so it seems to me. Most people around the world, who go to films, know about the dance scenes in Bollywood films.  We saw a gangster  film while in India called  “Shoot Out Wadala”, http://youtu.be/CoImdcdyAYo  a rather violent film but at one point, the cast put down their guns and danced their hearts out!  Granted my Bollywood film watching is limited, but the only film I remember seeing without dancing is  “Attack of 26/11” http://youtu.be/20v_DINmWXo.  This is India’s 9/11 moment with a sneak attack in Mumbai.

Dancing in India is  great exercise and a joyful expression of life.  Watch this  flash dance at lunch time in an Indian cooperation cafeteria!

Have you ever danced in flash dance or seen one?

“Stolen Innocence” Documentary Film

This article and video tells of  a not uncommon problem in India.  Sex trafficking is a horrendous fact of life for poor girls and families everywhere, even in the wealthy west. People in power and wealth acting with impunity is   modern day slavery!  Thank God there are brave story tellers, film makers, and justice workers who are shining lights into the dark crevices and trying to save these little girls. I have no doubt that many of the authorities in India are appalled by this situation. Recently there have been stories of Indian police raiding brothels and businesses such as brick making factories  to free the  poor who are working there as slaves  . . . . . .  men, women and children.

The desperation of utter poverty only adds to this problem. Parents are often faced with the choice of selling their children in order to provide for  their others.

Are you aware of this worldwide problem for the poor?

Thanks J. K. !

Scotland – If We Vote No, We Become The Joke On Earth! – Images/Video

I got very interested in the Indian election last May when Mr. Modi became the new Prime Minister. And now I have learned about the Scottish referendum for independence on September 18. It seems , a universal yearning for all people to be free. Look at the pictures of the Scottish drive for freedom to govern themselves and listen to the videos and inspirational music. Especially read the Declaration of Arbroath from 1320 and learn from my Scottish friend Shaun why Scotland should be free. Vote “Yes!”

My Story . . . . . . . . 9/11/01

11Photo1It was a  Tuesday and a crystal clear fall morning, September 11, 2001.  My sixth graders were in art first period, and I was doing planning for the week. The principal  popped in and  said, “Turn on your TV!”  Seeing  the now famous images hit me like a ton of bricks, as well as disbelief. My head was swimming, filled with questions, and I was dizzy with it all.  Hurrying down to collect my class, another thought hit even closer to home.  My son and daughter-in-law live in New York.  Are they safe…out of harms way?  Neither of them worked in the WTC, but the  nature of the city and the world’s business is that people are out and about having meetings all over.   I ran to get my phone and got a busy signal!  A few minutes later, I tried again…busy …still.  This happened over and over.  These phones we had for emergencies didn’t  work when I was experiencing the biggest emergency in my life.  This was the situation with the phones for hours  because the cell tower was on the top of one of the twin towers.  There was no personal communication  available.

Parents began to come to get their kids ,as at that point, we had no details. Would there be more attacks?  Was this beginning of a huge war?  The school was called together in the church for scriptures, prayers and music.  It was comforting.  Someone told me that the reason that the phone was busy, busy. . . the cell tower was hit and down. We went through the motions and sometimes just sat quietly and still ,watching  both towers fall.I hadn’t heard a word from my son….I prayed silently.  Stories were circulated in the school of parents who were in the City for meetings that fateful day. Where were they? Were they safe?  More people to pray for.  No answers, just those dreadful pictures. . . . .

Then at 12:30 the secretary came to my room.  Chris had called….if he called , he was alive! Thank God. Both he and his wife were safe and unharmed. He had been in West Chester that morning and his wife worked in mid-town near Grand Central Station.  He was not able to call because of the trouble with the cell phones.

Later, I would hear stories, mostly from my daughter-in-law.  People in her office had noticed the second plane flying low  past their window. It was a surprise and a wonder as flights over mid-town are not allowed. Soon they found out about its dastardly mission.  She said it was announced fairly quickly that the island  of Manhattan was going on lock down. No one could leave or enter over the bridges, through the tunnels, or in the trains until it was deemed safe to travel.  Friends in the office, who lived in Manhattan, invited  others  to come to their place. Someone  noticed the senior  partner had gone into his office and locked the door.  He would not answer the questions of “What shall we do, stay or go?” When the workers left, he was still in his office, paralyzed by the situation.

Later she told me that the streets were filled with sirens, shrieking  and wailing continuously.  After a few hours, it was deemed safe to open the transportation and Demone was waiting for a train to Sleepy Hollow from Grand Central.  There was a large commotion and people started running and screaming.  Someone had yelled,  “Bomb!’ and the nervous crowd had gone crazy. It turned out that this was a hoax….can you believe anyone could be so cruel?

A cab driver, I spoke to  a few weeks later, told me he was driving that day.  He remembers the sirens, and horns honking, honking continuously.  People were using their cars as weapons slamming into others to squeeze through the nearly stopped traffic.  Cars were scrapping into the  guardrails  trying to escape. There were stories of people walking for miles, some just wandering aimlessly.

When the kids met up at home, they decided to go to the hospital and give blood. At that time, people thought it would be needed and wanted to do something.  They stood in a huge, non-moving line for 8 hours, to learn that little emergency blood was needed because of the  lack of survivors.s01_H6880853

At one point, I was struck with the question  if there had been school children on the roof. But thankfully, I remembered that it didn’t  open until 10:00 as I explained yesterday. On my way home, I went to CVS and saw the mother of a student who had gone on one of my trips to New York. We both cried with the remembrances of that wonderful trip, that she said her daughter still talked about, and the sudden, swift, horror of this day!

President Bush had suggested that at 7 pm, people stand on their porches with a lit candle to signify “the light the US wished to shine in a dark world.” We did it, which  surprised me that my husband agreed.  He is not very emotional or sentimental, but he stood next to me with tears running down his face, holding his candle high.

Later I was lying in bed unable to sleep with all sorts of images, and words, and questions filling my brain and refusing to be turned off.  This day 90 different countries  had lost citizens just trying to do their work.  And my last grateful  thought was of Chris calling to tell me that he and Demone were safe and well. He knew, of course, that I would be worried out of my mind.  I suddenly thought of all those Mamas all over the world from 90 countries, with  almost 3000 children who  were unable to call to say, “Mom, I am alive and safe!” For ages, I remembered that daily, and would pray for comfort for those dear women. Today, I pray for them ,who have not forgotten and never will, this day when their hearts shattered to pieces,  9/11/01!

Twin Towers Documentary “9/11”

On September 11, 2001, filmmaker James Hanlon and Jules and Gedeon Naudet were filming a documentary on a rookie New York City firefighter when they noticed a plane overhead. That plane would hit the World Trade Center. They rushed immediately to the scene. James Hanlon and the Naudets filmed throughout Sept. 11 and the days afterward from the firemen’s perspective, as it became clear to them that this was the only known footage from inside the Twin Towers that day.

Tomorrow I will reblog my personal story from September 11, 2001.  Today, here  is an amazing documentary.  It is as if this team was  in lower Manhattan on that fateful day to be the keepers of the story. You will see film of the first plane hit, see the interior of the World Trade Center,  and ride with brave  first responders.

Watch and remember. . . . .
